At 10 days old, everyone has doubled his or her birth weight.

Puppies are just starting to open their eyes.

They've had their first nail trims.

Mom is spending more time with the family and letting us interact with the puppies a little more. She's started coming to tend to the chickens with me in the mornings again.

Puppies get daily snuggles from kids and grown ups now.

They also spend a great deal of time burrowing UNDER the bumper beds rather than sleeping on them.

Here are their nicknames, which, of course, are welcome to be changed when you take them home. These are just so we don't have to refer to them by their colors for the next 7 weeks.

I wrote an explanation of all their names, then my post got lost somehow so I'm leaving it all the explanation for now.

The boys:

Comet

Pluto

The girls:

Hope

Jingle

Alexis

Angel

Peace

Here's how I make mother's yogurt:

4 cups of yogurt

4 eggs

1.5 cups of sugar

Little bit of vanilla

It's a 1:1:1/2 ratio, and then slightly reduce the sugar.

Cook on stovetop until eggs are cooked. 160 degrees F.

Regular yogurt

I also make my own yogurt. I used to do it in my instant pot, but then I MELTED it on the stove top so now I'm making it in the oven. Here's how I do it:

1 gallon of milk. Almost boil it on the stovetop. (180 degrees F for 10 minutes) Don't burn it because it'll be disgusting.

Then remove from heat for an hour or so until a drop of it on the inside of my wrist feels like nothing. Cover during this process so the cats don't start drinking it and contaminate it.

Add about a quarter to half a cup of yogurt. (Store-bought or previously made at home). Stir.

Preheat oven to any temperature. Lowest setting is fine.

Turn oven off.

Turn oven light on.

It needs to hold 90-100 degrees F overnight. (Or for about 9 hours). In some oven models, the light is good enough for this. Check yours first if you use this method so you don't make something that's not yogurt and not safe.

Place pot in oven. Come back tomorrow. See if it's yogurt. I check by tasting it. I feel like this may not be the best method. Try it at your own risk.

...puppies.

ree

That's right. I have a literal pile of puppies in my bedroom now.

I think right will be a way different litter from the three we had last time.

For one, it was harder work for Butter. She was delivering puppies from 4AM until 9 AM.

I want to get birth weights on them, but not as much as I don't want to stress out the mama.

Butter consumed copious amounts of mother's yogurt today, and I've made a stockpot full for later. Last time, I did not post the recipe, and I wished I had, so this time, I shall.

But in a different post.

NOTE: this post is getting published several days after intended. This litter has, understandably, been more challenging than the last. Birthday: 12-16-23
